Today he took the reigns on Tim and Jim Takeoff and is reading mostly by himself with a little help from me. I am so proud I have tears in my eyes. He has read nearly 3 full pages with no help at all. I am so happy!!!
We just read The Best Vacation Ever by Stuart J. Murphy and A Children’s Book about Whining by Joy Berry. I think I will continue in the series of books that are supposed to help the child build a better character. I read that one to him, but he helped me read the book about [...]
He is reinforcing his skills today on his Wiggles game for Vsmile. There are a good number of minigames that cover math, reading, following directions, music, and more. I think that will be “school” for today…that and a trip to the library. We are 8 1/2 books into our summer reading splash. He is learning [...]
It’s Hard to Be Five: Learning How to Work My Control Panel was a good one. My son enjoyed it thoroughly. We read that together yesterday. I have started the Help Me Be Good series with him, especially since he wants to learn about being a good person. A children’s book about being selfish (Help [...]
I’m Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem has made me think we should get more from the Jamie/Laura team of authors. I got this one from the library. It’s a fun tale about self-esteem. It’s really god, especially when my son can read the smaller transitional words like I, a, me (etc.). We [...]
There is a free Summer Reading Program from Old Schoolhouse Magazine. You can participate with your children, no matter the age. We are already 2 books up and working on another. Check it out here.
Today he decided to do more words. I cannot stop this kid! He is loving learning on his little chalkboard easel. We did a number of words. He also remembered that some words have a long A sound because they end in E. The two words he did today for that were cake and cage. [...]
Fighting for two weeks has paid off. Last night he brought me his easel and asks me what he should spell. He sounded out and spelled : cat, dog, my first & last name, hill, sun and probably a few other words. This morning he read the word God after sounding it out. It is [...]
Yesterday and today we were working on his phonics. It is something else to hear him finally get a word. He read a few pretty well by sounding htem out yesterday. Today, not so much. He is fighting me about it because he just wants me to tell him the answer. I have never been [...]
Today was a pretty okay day for learning. I let his father take over the Math lesson to give me a break, and give him a feel for what I go through nearly every day! That took an hour, even with his father right next to him helping. The kid just DOESN’T want to do [...]
