The stories that make me cry: Salvation

Posted by Taz's Mom on May 25th, 2008 filed in Spirituality

Okay so I gave you a brief update earlier on my son giving his heart to God this evening. Here is how it came about:

All week we have been talking about the fruits of the Spirit, but we never talked about what “the spirit” is. Tonight, he asked me out of the clear blue “Mommy, what is the Holy Spirit?”

Obviously, this child has been thinking hard about the Spirit since he started this lesson. I explained it the best way I could, and he told me how he understood it. Then he said something about wanting the fruits of the Spirit. I explained to him about how to get them, how to pray to ask Jesus into your heart and get the Holy Spirit in your life. He told me in his own words how he understood that. Then I asked him if he wanted to pray to get Jesus in his heart and live for Jesus. He said yes. I asked if he wanted to do it right now…

He thought for a moment, pondering it in his mind, then replied unequivocally:

Yes.

So I took him to the couch, kneeled, and we prayed for Jesus to come into his heart and for the Holy Spirit to help him with his fruits. Then we were done, he looked at me with a genuine look of understanding, and hugged me grinning & giggling. Then it was back to life as usual, but not really.

He went to do that teenager whine just a few minutes ago, stopped himself, and said “I’m not gonna do it”. Holy moley.

I have another story to tell, but I will save it for tomorrow.
