Yesterday our fire alarm went off while my husband was making his all to delicious empanadillas. My son comes racing from the room exclaiming ” There’s a fire! What do I do? “. Well, that was the perfect opportunity for me to teach him the right and wrong ways to react to a fire alarm. I have taught him the SDR rules already. I didn’t teach him what to do if he hears the fire alarms. We crawled on the floor. I showed him how to test the door. I told him about closing the door if he sees smoke or flames. I told him to stay closer to the window if he can’t get out of the door safely so someone can rescue him. He got it pretty quickly, and practiced for a good half hour before it got annoying he felt as though he had it down. I am proud of him for internalizing what I said about being prepared for a fire.
