A Doofus, Mommy!

Posted by Taz's Mom on August 11th, 2007 filed in Unschool

My son got to stay with my mother a few days while we were out of town. She always teaches him about things in life, like birds and fish and all kinds of interesting things. One of her interests is hummingbirds. She has two feeders outside her windows so she can watch them. As you can imagine, this a big attraction for the children that visit her home.

Yesterday, after I picked up my nephew, we went to visit my mother at her house. Everyone was chatting and whatnot when my son shouts out “A doofus, mommy!” I’m like “a what???”. As you can imagine, it shocked me to hear him saying a word I EXPLICITLY told him not to use >>>

him: mommy a doofus!
me: who’s a doofus? what are you talking about
him: mommy, no! a doofus has red like ketchup on his neck
my mom: OOOH he means a rufus!
me: oh so you taught him about the birds *laugh* yes baby a RUFUS has red on his neck that looks like ketchup.
him: yeah a Rufus!!
me: good job remembering what grandmom taught you about the birds!

HEHE gotta love a kid.
