Child hackers and learning computer functions

This just made me laugh. I can picture my son trying the same thing. He can already do so much on my computer. Kim Komando relates how her son became a computer hacker of sorts and he is only in Kindergarten! Talk about genius ;)

My son can do pretty much anything he wants on the computer as of right now. He can find the paint program to draw with, the cards game to play, and once in a while he will figure out where he can go on the Internet if he is so inclined. That is why he has his OWN computer not connected to anything but the electricity. God forbid he end up going somewhere he shouldn’t!

All these skills will come in handy for him soon enough. I think all children should know how to work the basics in technology, learn how to type, and various general aspects of computers. It is the future, it’s the now. I know lots of people don’t believe that they should have their children become so tech savvy at such young ages, but honestly the younger they are the easier they learn.

I have heard of far too many older people who are struggling to get the basics down…and I mean real basic like turning on the computer and the screen! That’s why there are so many classes geared toward the older generation just for these elementary functions of computers.

When I went to college, I taught my mom how to use the Internet so we could keep in touch for free. Now she can surf with the best of us. It was fun to watch her grow by leaps and bounds. She even sends me things from YouTube!

So you see, it’s never to late to learn but it’s much easier to teach your children now. Use the time to your advantage! You have the upper hand in showing them acceptable uses of social networking sites, chatrooms, and the Internet in general. It is with education that they learn how not to become cyberstalkers, cyberbullies, or victims of the same.

It’s amazing to see how children adapt to technology. My 8 year old surfs the net and plays online games like WebKinz. I do have a lot of parental controls set up on her computer. My older dd at 20 is the one I call when I have a problem with my computer! Give them PC they will learn!
